Catapult Challenge

Kindergarten- 5th grade students are gaining an understanding of how force is a push or a pull that can move objects, and how simple machines help us do work. Specifically, levers.

Challenge:

The students were presented with the challenge to build a catapult that can launch a projectile to hit a 6 inch target 36 inches away. They were separated into groups and given 4 regular size Popsicle sticks, 2 jumbo Popsicle sticks, 3 rubber bands, and one spoon. Once they assembled their catapult, they were given projectiles (a marshmallow, hard candy, and gummy candy) in order to test it.
